or use the contact form. Please tell us, if you have any experience in singing or playing an instrument and which register you usually sing.
We, the Classical Lesbians, are ca. 25 enthusiastic singers from Berlin who are united by their love of women and classical choir music. We are passionate about singing together and delight in our repertoire which includes madrigals, romantic songs as well as modern choir pieces. Why we are particularly fond of Ancient Music? Well, we’ve found that it often describes very accurately the ups and downs of lesbian love. As regards the romantic period, we are particularly happy that our repertoire includes several pieces by Fanny Hensel, one of very few well-known women composers of the time. Ever since 1996, we have been meeting once a week to rehearse a-capella songs. We enjoy the sound of our voices coming together and love to experiment with unusual harmonies.

The choir became an established part of the German lesbian choir scene. Twice we’ve had the pleasure of welcoming wonderful choirs we met at previous Various Voices festivals, i.e. Dissonant from Amsterdam in 2006 and Diversity from London in 2008. We even perform at a variety of charity concerts, something which is very important to us. We also attend the German Lesbian Choir Festival “Lesbenfrauenchöretreffen” and are always looking forward to visiting “Various Voices”. This is Europe’s largest Gay and Lesbian choral festival. The next Various Voices wil be held in Bologna 2023!

Since January 2023 Camille Caradeuc (she/her), a young french soprano and choir conductor based in Berlin, is our new choir leader. After a Bachelor in musicology, she dedicated herself full time to music between Grenoble's conservatory and pre professional choirs in Lyon: Jeune Choeur Symphonique, Syllepse, Choeur National des Jeunes etc. In October 2021 she entered Berlin's University of the Arts in the operatic Bachelor. In parallel to her studies she was always deeply interested and active in politics and social justice. She is really proud to take part of this musical and human exciting adventure with the Classical Lesbians! But we are not just passionate about music, we also love to socialise! After choir practise on Friday nights we regularly go to a pub in Berlin-Kreuzberg where we refill our batteries with beer and French fries.
Moreover, we retreat to North-Eastern Germany for our choir week-end once a year. Between forests and lakes we rehearse, eat, drink and sing by the fire site. Thus refreshed we return to Berlin where we organise a big concert every year.
